The Academy of Educators at WashU Medicine fosters a culture of educational excellence and an institutionally valued community of leaders in health science education. The Academy is pleased to announce the call for nominations for the 2025 Lifetime Achievement Award, Exemplary Educator Award and Rising Star Award recognizing outstanding contributions by our faculty in health and basic sciences education.
The awards include a plaque awarded at the annual Academy of Educators Ceremony held on October 14, 2025. Nominations are open from March 18, 2025, until May 11, 2025, at 11:59 p.m.
The Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes a faculty member who has shown a lifelong commitment to education and demonstrates excellence in three or more domains of education and mentorship. Current WashU Medicine faculty nominated for the Lifetime Achievement Award should have at least twenty years of service as faculty in an academic teaching setting.
The Exemplary Educator Awardrecognizes a faculty member who is actively building a legacy as an educator through contributions in two or more domains of education and mentorship. Current WashU Medicine faculty nominated for the Exemplary Educator Award should have at least six years of service as faculty in an academic teaching setting.
The Rising Star Award recognizes a current WashU Medicine faculty member who shows exceptional promise as an educator through contributions in two or more domains of education and mentorship. Current WashU Medicine faculty nominated for the Rising Star Award have less than six years of service as faculty in an academic teaching setting.
For all awards, academic appointments held prior to joining WashU Medicine may be included. Nominations may be submitted by faculty, course leaders, program directors, and department leaders. Nominations should include a brief statement summarizing the nominee’s qualifications and impact on education, the nominee’s CV, a CEP/ Executive Summary/ Summary of Educational Activities, and two structured letters of support (nominator may serve as letter writer).
Faculty educators may be nominated for these awards based on their contributions and accomplishments in the following Academy of Educators domains:
- Direct Teaching of Students, Residents/Fellows, or Faculty
- Instructional Development and Curricular Design
- Advising and Mentorship of students, residents, fellows, or junior faculty
- Educational Administration and Leadership
- Educational Research or Scholarship
- Assessment and Evaluation
Complete nomination packets with all materials must be received by 11:59 p.m. on May 11, 2025. The submission portal automatically closes at 11:59 p.m. (CST).
