
The Accreditation Council on Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and WashU Medicine are collaborating to co-sponsor the Developing Faculty Competencies in Assessment course, which is an annual 3-day certificate course. It aims to promote and enhance faculty participants’ skills in learner assessment and in designing and enhancing assessment programs to achieve the goals of competency-based medical education (CBME) or outcomes-based education. Topics covered in the course include (but are not limited to):
- Outcomes-based Education
- What Constitutes Effective Assessment?
- Direct Observation
- Feedback
- Narrative Assessment
- Bias in Assessment
- Step-by-step Guide to Assessment Development
- Remediation
- Effective Clinical Competency Committees/Competency Attainment Committees
This highly interactive course supports faculty skill development through practice and application of all course topics. It is intended for faculty program leaders and front-line faculty assessors across all health professions and who work with learners at any developmental stage.
If you are interested in registering, please hold the following course dates on your calendar pending application review: Tuesday, 4/7/26 (full day); Wednesday, 4/8/26 (full day); Thursday, 4/9/26 (full day). In-person attendance at each of the sessions is necessary to achieve the certificate.

- Statement of Interest: in a few sentences, please describe how you anticipate the content from this course will help you in your current role (do not exceed one paragraph). We use this information to tailor course content and faculty groups to best meet participant needs.
- WashU Medicine Faculty Registrant: Attestation from an individual in a leadership position in your Department or Program (e.g. Department Chair, Division head, Program lead, etc.) for protected time to ensure full participation during the course dates (template provided in application).

- Educators across health professions (MD, OT, PT, PACS, DBBS, and other educational programs)
- Leaders of education programs, courses, or clinical competency committees
- Front-line faculty assessors with interest in enhancing feedback skills and understanding how their assessments fit in the “big picture”
This course is free for WashU Medicine Faculty.
Cost (for non WashU Medicine Faculty):
- $775 if registered by December 12, 2025
- $875 if registered after December 12, 2025

Accreditation:
Continuing Medical Education (CME) – $100 fee
