Educators play an essential role in supporting the scientific and patient care missions of academic medical centers. Despite their crucial role in training the next generation of scientists and clinicians, academic advancement is often slower for educators than for other faculty. Increased clinical productivity demands and financial stressors at academic medical centers add to the existing challenges faced by educators. This workshop will discuss progress in promotions criteria to support educators to more successfully navigate the promotions process. Educators’ products are diverse, and publication may not always be the primary currency. This workshop will share tips on how best to capture the impact of your teaching and medical education scholarship as well as the importance of developing a niche, mentorship and sponsorship, skill building, and developing a robust educator portfolio.
